Making Watercolor Resist Art

Have you ever wondered what the white crayon that comes in the multiple color packs is for? Believe it or not, you can actually do something with it! There are so many ways of using these white crayons! Our favorite is doing watercolor resist with white crayons to write secret messages or color with them.

Yes, you are right, white crayons cannot be seen on plain white paper. But if you use the watercolor resist technique, they will actually show. This painting technique is actually really cool and my kids love it.

But first, let’s see what we need to create this watercolor resist art activity. Here is your short supply list for a ton of fun!

Here is what you need

  • watercolor paper
  • 1 white crayon
  • watercolors
  • 1 paintbrush

About this White Crayon Watercolor Activity

My kids really love this watercolor activity! It is easy to prepare, and most likely you will have all the materials in your house already. The best part about it is that it’s an enjoyable activity for kids of all ages! It would even be a nice classroom activity, especially now that kids are starting to go back to school.

Tip: The big kids will love writing secret messages in this activity. If you have young toddlers, just help them out and prepare the white crayon drawing for them.

This is the perfect time to spend rainy days inside with some fun arts and crafts projects. And also because the weather is changing and it will soon start getting cooler, this calls for more inside fun!
